The affair and careers of two lying, cheating GOP Tea Partiers in Michigan has officially ended, now that one has been expelled by her colleagues and the other, facing ouster next, resigned instead.
Rightwing republicans Todd Courser and Cindy Gamrat exited the State House in shame early today; their inglorious departure concluding a weeks-long scandal and probe that put a dash of hubris into their illicit romance.
Gamrat, 42, spent most of yesterday pleading with fellow legislators to simply censure her for taking part in the twosome’s seedy and absurd sex cover-up. But, after several hours of deliberation and voting, she was finally shown the door.
Her slippery 43-year-old Tea Party paramour then volunteered his formal resignation, in lieu of an expulsion from office:
"I hereby tender my resignation from the Michigan House of Representatives effective immediately,” Courser stated. “It has been an honor serving with the dedicated members and staff of the House of Representatives.”
The two GOP ultra conservatives -- both married with children -- concocted a gay/smear campaign against Courser with the aim of distracting attention from their rumored extramarital fling and “making it seem tame by comparison.”
That elaborate sham -- perhaps even more than an adulterous relationship between two lawmakers who rose to power by touting “family values” -- is what led to their political downfall this week.
The anti gay-marriage legislation which former representatives Cindy Gamrat and Todd Courser coauthored in June is likely bound for a similar defeat.
