A famed Bangladeshi cricketer is on the run following his brutal beating of a child maid earlier this month.

Officials in Dhaka are seeking to arrest cricket player Shahadat Hossain, 29, as well as his wife Nritto Shahadat, for the vicious assault of a young domestic in their employment.

The couple remains at large, police told reporters yesterday, and the Hossains’ victim is still recovering from her injuries at a city hospital.

Passersby found the badly beaten girl semiconscious in the street last week and immediately contacted authorities.

The 11-year-old then told investigators that the Shahadats had “tortured and abused her” in their nearby home, and, shortly after the assault was confirmed, the Shahadats’ upscale residence was raided.

Unfortunately, the two prime suspects had already gone into hiding, upon somehow learning in advance that they were wanted for questioning.

Shahadat Hossain has since been officially expelled from his national cricket team -- but because the athlete fled jurisdiction he had missed a handful of matches before the Bangladesh Cricket Board made that announcement.

“The allegations against Shahadat Hossain have tarnished our image,” a spokesman for the organization told AFP this weekend. “We've therefore decided to temporarily suspend him from all sorts of cricket being organized by the Bangladesh Cricket Board.”
