Jury Convicts Mom Who Microwaved Her Baby to Death - California

Nov 15, 2015

Sacramento’s infamous Microwave Mom could get life in prison for baking her newborn to death.

In the spring of 2011, California cops found the one-month-old daughter of Ka Yang badly burned and unresponsive at her home.

The fatally injured infant died soon thereafter and an autopsy revealed her death was due to “thermal” damages consistent with how food is cooked in a microwave oven.

The victim’s 34-year-old mother was questioned again about the alleged space-heater “accident” she said had *somehow* claimed her daughter’s life while she herself was “blacked out” from “an epileptic seizure.”

Yang, who is married and has three other young children, was then arrested on charges related to infanticide, after dramatically changing her original account and eventually confessing.

A jury convicted her last week of assault and first-degree murder in the cooking death of her baby Mirabelle. She is expected to be sentenced next month.
