Mystery of DC Mansion Murder and Arson Deepens (photo)

May 19, 2015

Police say the DC mansion murder and arson of an affluent family last Thursday was likely perpetrated by at least one individual with whom the victims were well acquainted.

That hunch is supported by evidence that the sprawling Savopoulos residence had not been broken into, and that there appeared to be no reports of suspicious strangers or activities in the area during the timeframe the crime was committed.

Most homicide victims are in fact killed by someone they know and usually in their own homes, so the working theory in the otherwise truly puzzling Washington DC slayings isn’t unusual.

Investigators also think that wealthy businessman Savvas Savopoulos, together with his wife, son and maid, were “bound and threatened” throughout the night before they were viciously stabbed, bludgeoned, left for dead, and their house set ablaze.

Video surveillance released by Maryland authorities only hours after the house fire was put out and the crime scene within revealed seems to show a svelte male suspect carrying a large white work-bucket.

From his stature and gait, the unidentified hooded man appears to be about the age of the two surviving Savopoulos daughters who were both allegedly away at school when their parents and younger brother were killed on Thursday.

The security footage was captured at a church lot some 35 miles from where the DC mansion murder and arson was perpetrated. It’s also the same location where the family’s stolen Porsche was found abandoned and torched.

A reward has been offered for the apprehension of the person or persons responsible for the heinous acts. No murder motive, however, has yet been divulged.
