Man Who Killed and Froze His Parents Kills Self in Jail (Oregon)

Jul 3, 2015

A troubled Oregon man who killed and froze his parents this June has killed himself as well in a jailhouse suicide.

Jeremy Ringquist, 38, was found mortally injured in his cell Wednesday and died in the hospital less than 24 hours later.

The suspect had just been charged in the double murder of his parents, Randy and Karen Ringquist, with whom he was living after losing his job as an engineer and finalizing a divorce this year.

Following a welfare check a week ago, the Ringquists were both found dead at their home --murdered, police say, by their unemployed son who then stuffed their lifeless bodies in a freezer.

Ringquist had only been in custody a short while before attempting to take his own life as well, despite being under psychiatric observation during his brief incarceration, allegedly on an “hourly” basis.

Relatives have since provided some insight into the slayings of his parents, explaining that victim Randy Ringquist was an alcoholic and a wife-beater, and that the son was also abusive to his mother once he moved back home six months ago.

The younger Ringquist was additionally finding it difficult to find a new job, they say, ostensibly because of a “mental breakdown” and his significant weight problem.

On the day police arrested him, he already had self inflicted injuries which required hospitalization before he could be charged for two counts of aggravated murder and related offenses.
