Cases Trending This Week on Crime Magazine (August 20, 2015)

Aug 20, 2015

As the #DogDays of summer start smothering us again, it’s big cats and fat cats who are dominating headlines this week on Crime Magazine. Here are some of the cases and judicial contests we’re closely watching:

1. Day three in the NH trial of an accused #SaintPaul prep-school rapist, and a misguided defense lawyer has already dug the arrogant youth into a hole by arguing “it’s an honor” to be #raped (and even bitten in the act) by guys like him. Read more about this rather remorseless #preppie perp here.

2. Subway Sandwiches’ disgraced fat cat #JaredFogle also thinks sex with children is truly “amazing” -- except the married father-of-two is almost 40. A not-so-little detail that’s got him #busted plus sued for divorce simultaneously, as he pleads guilty for going to great lengths in corrupting over a dozen little girls. Read why the fast-food franchise quickly disowned their number one spokesman here.

3. And South Africa’s number one #affluenza sufferer and violent felon Oscar #Pistorius was all set to sneak out of jail this weekend and start living it up and lady-killing again via his cushy mansion-arrest scheme. But, since the self-confessed killer of #ReevaSteenkamp actually only served 10 months for his vicious crime, the Ministry of Justice just blocked his parole as a bit “premature” and totally baseless -- read more about it here.

4. Detroit had a very big but very brief bout of feline envy over Milwaukee’s now-fabled “lion” who’s allegedly been on the loose in #BeerCity for over a month without being captured despite even police sightings. Motor City’s fierce big cat, however, turned out to be about as dangerous as Tony the Tiger -- catch up on both tall tails here.

5. Finally, #DCR head honchos and their heavy-handed social workers at numerous (and ignominious) Departments of Children and Families across the country are fearing for their jobs now, as well as for their lives -- find out why here and here.
