Missing Teen Texted She Was Being Followed Before Vanishing - South Carolina

Aug 25, 2015

A missing teen texted she was being followed before vanishing on the first day of school in the Surfside Beach, South Carolina region.

Marley Spindler, 16, was last seen by classmates on the morning of August 20th going out of her way to pick up a 22-year-old man named “Jeremy” she had met recently, instead of heading directly to campus.

Apart from a security cam filming her alone and withdrawing cash from an area bank about an hour later, she has not been seen or heard from since.

Her last message, which she texted shortly after leaving the ATM, was an alert to friends at Socastee High School to the possibility that someone was shadowing her, which they concluded was “a joke.”

Spindler’s cell phone was discovered abandoned in a parking lot that same day by an employee of the Ocean Reef Resort.

Investigators said the man Spindler was to have rendezvoused with “has been cleared” of involvement in the teen girl’s disappearance and that, thus far, there’s no reason to suspect foul in her missing persons case.

“The effort to find Marley McKenna Spindler has been announced through the National Crime Information Center and authorities in a very large area are looking for her,” a police spokesman told reporters this week.

Marley Spindler is 5-foot-8 and about 100 pounds, with hazel eyes and brown hair. The 16-year-old was driving a silver 2002 Ford Escape with South Carolina plates KFI-776.

Anyone who may have seen her or who knows of her current whereabouts is urged to contact the Horry County South Carolina police at 843-915-7995, or 911.
