#ALERT - A shy but deadly king cobra has escaped an Orlando home this week and remains at large today.

The 8-foot-long viper packs enough venom in its fangs to kill almost 2-dozen people at one time, but is not native to the region and, like most wildlife, is naturally wary of human beings.

Police say the owner had a proper license to house a venomous snake and in fact runs a not-for-profit rescue operation for such exotic animals.

However, Mike Kennedy’s reptile facility on the 4800 block of North Apopka Vineland Road is adjacent to an elementary school, making the case of the missing king cobra all the more urgent to solve.

Florida Fish and Wildlife officials are warning anyone who encounters the king cobra, at large this week in Orlando, to keep a safe distance and to alert  FWC via the agency’s Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-3922.
