#REWARD Offered in Holiday Shooting of Cuomo Aide - NYPD

Sep 9, 2015

A #reward is being offered by the #NYPD and #CrimeStoppers for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the gunman who shot a top Cuomo aide over the holiday weekend.

NYC’s deputy counsel for economic development, Carey Gabay took a bullet to the head in the Brooklyn shootout that investigators believe involved a handful of gang members whose identities are wrongly being protected.

The 43-year-old attorney and new father remains in a coma today, amid rumors that he may be brain-dead from his wound and on life support.

This week, detectives with the New York Police Department revisited the neighborhood #Gabay was walking in when gunfire broke out, and announced by bullhorn they’d pay $12,500 to anyone with verifiable tips about the crime.

They also plastered hundreds of posters on buildings and lampposts advertising the #reward details, in hopes cold hard cash will help loosen some lips.

Video of the predawn event shows chaos erupting on Bedford Avenue as rival gangs began firing their weapons haphazardly at each other and innocent parade-goers scatter for safety.

Carey Gabay attempted to duck behind a parked vehicle, but was apparently struck by an errant or ricocheting bullet which entered the top of his skull as he was crouching low to the pavement.

He has not regained consciousness since a group of friends subsequently found him collapsed in the street and unresponsive.

Mr. Gabay’s family released the following status report to reporters yesterday:

“Carey remains in critical condition and is currently in an induced coma surrounded by his loved ones. Our family is thankful for the outpouring of prayers that we've received in the aftermath of this senseless violence. Carey has always been an inspiration to all of us and he continues to inspire us with his fight for survival. We are leaning on our faith and asking for continued support during this extremely difficult time.”

Anyone with information about the Brooklyn shootout that tragically injured #CareyGabay is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
