Bodies Found in Home of Dead Minister [Illinois]

Halloween has arrived early this year for residents in the Illinois suburb of Riverdale, where at least three bodies and “other remains” have been discovered in the home of a dead minister. 

State Police were called to the address yesterday to investigate the ghoulish find, and neighbors then lined up outside to watch a procession of bloody stretchers being carried out of the garage.

So far, the county coroner has not announced the ages or genders of the dead people removed from the home, which were all reportedly found in various stages of decay.

The former owner of Riverdale’s house of death, Anton Godfrey, died the last week of August from cardiac arrest, according to his wife who first came across the cache of corpses as she was packing her late husband’s belongings.

He had been a minister at a regional church, but his family said he also moonlighted as an undertaker, performing some of those duties at a home-based facility.

That explains why dead bodies -- and headstones -- would be stored in the garage temporarily, but not why they had begun piling up.

“My theory is he was going to bury those people and brought them home and never got around to burying them,” one onlooker speculated with reporters on Wednesday.

“That’s bringing too much work home,” the man said with disgust. “He had to bury people -- that was his job!
