A female Canadian backpacker was found murdered in Golden Gate Park San Francisco over the weekend.
Passersby discovered the badly beaten body of Audrey Carey early Saturday morning and EMTs pronounced her dead at the scene.
The case has been ruled a homicide, although a motive for the crime -- which evidently occurred during the park’s popular Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival -- is still being explored.
“We don't know if it was robbery,” a spokesman for the SFPD said, acknowledging that another concert-goer had been violently mugged around the same time of Carey’s estimated death, and pretty much in the same vicinity.
Audrey Carey’s trip to California was part of a much anticipated world tour, a relative of the slain young woman told reporters. “It was her first trip,” he poignantly added.
