Search On For Missing Women Believed Slain and Torched - NC

Nov 11, 2015

North Carolina officials are scouring roadsides and dumps for two missing women that a suspect in police custody says he murdered and set afire.

Cecil Scott Byrd reportedly has confessed to critical involvement in the October 2015 missing persons cases of Sarah Denise Riddle, 45, and Lisa Ann Robbins, 49.

While the circumstances of their disappearances and presumed deaths are still being probed this month, the 41-year-old accused killer has already been arraigned for murder.

He provided no motive for killing and torching his victims then depositing one “in a dumpster” and scattering the other along a highway, but was additionally charged with identity theft.

An unsuccessful search was launched yesterday at a Caldwell County landfill in relation to Robbins’ death, although the hunt for Sarah Riddle’s remains has been officially terminated.

A police spokesman expressed concerns that these could have been so thoroughly incinerated they’re now strewn over “too broad” an area to ever be recovered.

Homicide detectives do believe, however, that they’ve found some of Lisa Robbins’ charred corpse -- several “bone fragments” recently discovered beside a rural route not far from Cecil Byrd’s residence are currently being tested.

Both victims are said to have been intimately acquainted with their alleged murderer.
