Police are reporting a slain family of three was sacrificed in Blue Moon satanic slayings last week, and the gruesome triple homicide not discovered until days later.
Few other details have been released regarding the weird deaths of 77-year-old Voncile Smith and her two grown children Richard Smith, 49, and John Smith, 47, except that the "reclusive" Floridians were all found with their throats cut.
Two were also bludgeoned with a claw hammer -- the mother and her younger son -- in what investigators insist was a “Wiccan ritual killing” connected to the somewhat rare celestial event last week.
A blue moon is so named when a second full moon occurs during the same monthly lunar cycle, which is what happened late in July.
“It appears that this might be connected to some type of Wiccan ritual killing and possibly tied to the blue moon,” a department spokesman told NBC News, adding that there was no sign of forced entry such as might suggest a home invasion.
The murder of the eldest son Richard may have been unplanned, detectives think. He was found with a bullet through his ear and his throat also slit, but was likely killed “as he came into the house” from his job at Homeland Security and interrupted murders already in progress there.
Investigators say their hunch that the Smith family killings were ritualistic in nature is substantiated by "the injuries to the victims and the positions of the bodies,” further revealing that “the person of interest right now is also a practitioner” of witchcraft.
No arrests have been made, however, and the alleged satanic slayings are still being investigated.
