In a tit for tat hack attack, malicious IT firm Hacking Team was thoroughly breached last night, including its Twitter account.
The surveillance company is itself linked to the development and distribution of malware programs which governments and policing agencies worldwide illicitly purchase and use against suspects.
In fact, HT’s been directly linked to client states who also resort to torture and even killing citizens in police custody -- no doubt one of the many reasons the un-repenting hacking pros were themselves finally hacked.
A flustered spokesman says Hacking Team honchos first discovered the massive security breach in one of its own “unauthorized” Twitter updates, and have been scrambling to plug incriminating document leaks ever since.
"We are investigating to determine the extent of this attack and specifically what has been taken," he said about the embarrassing hijack.
The telltale tweet read: "Since we have nothing to hide, we're publishing all our emails, files and source code," and was accompanied by damning screenshots and a mega gigabyte file.
Shortly thereafter, all that *sensitive* company info was verified online by several reliable sources; some of whom have been outspoken critics of the Team’s malicious methods and its creepy relationship with dozens of rogue regimes guilty of human rights violations.
Most recently HT was outed for targeting specific journalists and social activists on their clients’ behalf as well. A practice which has evidently proven to be the proverbial “straw that broke the camel’s back” for some especially talented hackers with a conscience.
But no one has actually claimed responsibility for this week’s tit for tat hack attack of Hacking Team … yet.
