International Terror Alert and Travel Warnings Issued by the U.S.

Nov 24, 2015

ALERT: Americans across the globe are being warned that the chances they’ll be targeted by terrorists during the upcoming holidays are greater than ever.

This month has been one of the most violent months on record, with hundreds if not thousands of terror victims maimed or slain, including nearly 500 in the Paris attacks on November 13th.

In fact, today’s high-level advisory by the State Department includes international travel warnings and will be in effect until the last week of February 2016; an unprecedented duration for such an alert.

It was prompted on evidence that Daesh and Boko Haram “continue to plan terrorist attacks in multiple regions,” U.S. officials revealed in their published announcement this morning.

“These attacks may employ a wide variety of tactics, using conventional and nonconventional weapons and targeting both official and private interests,” that statement also read.

Annually, millions of Americans take to the skies, or ride and drive hundreds of miles, to gather with their loved ones during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

An alert is far more serious than a warning, but, unlike the international one just issued, usually concerns a possible threat within a very narrow space of time in a specific country or city.

The government is evidently also worried about domestic copycats who might view recent high-profile acts of terrorism -- and nonstop media coverage of those events -- as an invitation to commit mass murder themselves:

“There is a continuing threat from unaffiliated persons planning attacks inspired by major terrorist organizations but conducted on an individual basis,” they’ve additionally cautioned.

So, as always, enjoy yourselves this holiday season, but please be vigilant.
